MORE THAN 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Ever since Bio-Zentrale Naturprodukte GmbH was founded in 1976, we have been one of the leading organic food companies in Germany.

We are a full-range organic food supplier with around 200 products of the brands biozentrale – Power of Nature and BioKids. We are committed to organic agriculture that interferes with nature as little as possible and combines the best of nature in a useful way.

COMPANY HISTORY

Bio-Zentrale is one of the oldest marketers of organic food in Germany. What started small a long time ago in 1976 with hand-filled containers of flours and granola in organic quality has become a wide range of high-quality organic food. About 200 biozentrale and BioKids products for daily needs provide natural delight with the power of nature.

Our depot with a central warehouse and an administration building in Wittibreut-Ulbering, Lower Bavaria, has been in operation since 1995. In 2002, it was expanded by a production building. Since 2008, this building has also served as our headquarters. Since then, the production, processing and marketing of our products from controlled organic agriculture are controlled from here. Today, our plant manufactures products (e.g. muesli bars and fruit slices) and fills them (muesli, seeds, seedlings, rice and ready meals such as patties or taboulé).

Every day, we take our aim to provide the highest quality and safest products very seriously. Therefore, our products are certified according to the guidelines of the EU Council Regulation on Organic Agriculture. Furthermore, our products undergo extensive quality testing before they leave our factory.

TIMELINE

1976

  • Foundation of Bio-Zentrale by Guido Gabisch in Windhag, Lower Bavaria (municipality of Stubenberg)
  • From a small business with four employees, Bio-Zentrale has evolved into one of the most important national suppliers of organic food
  • At the time of its foundation, the company initially concentrated on manual filling of flours and granolas
  • Like other organic pioneers, Bio-Zentrale initially marketed its products via organic specialist shops

1980

  • Expansion of the company building and purchase of a granola mixer and the first automatic filling machine for paper bags

1985

  • Expansion of the company and conversion into a GmbH
  • First supply of supermarkets with products under private labels from retail customers
  • Distribution via organic specialist shops was discontinued with the objective of developing a wide range of products

1987

  • From here on the growth of the company picks up speed

1992

  • Construction of the first CO2 pressure chamber plant for organic products in Germany

1995

  • Foundation of a depot in Ulbering in the municipality of Wittibreut with the construction of a central warehouse and an administration building

2001

  • A muesli bar production machine facilitates the in-house production

2002

  • Winner of the ‘Bayern Best 50’ award from the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs
  • Expansion of the Wittibreut-Ulbering site and addition of a production building

2008

  • Relocation of the company headquarters to Wittibreut-Ulbering

2009

  • Distribution of retail customers’ own brands reduced
  • The biozentrale brand is launched

2010

  • Children’s products are strategically positioned under the BioKids brand

2006 – 2017

  • After several company takeovers, Bio-Zentrale has been part of the Zertus Group since 2017, a family holding company from the medium-sized sector focused on food production and marketing
  • Karl J. Henecka is appointed as CEO
  • Start of the collaboration in sales with sister company Importhaus Wilms/Impuls GmbH & Co. KG

2018

  • In addition to Karl J. Henecka, Johannes Mauss is appointed as managing director and will take over the management of the company from here on out
  • Another office is established in Walluf, Hesse (headquarters of sister company Importhaus Wilms). In addition to management, the strategic marketing and product development departments are relocated to this second location
  • Expansion of the successful collaboration with Importhaus Wilms

2019

  • Repositioning and implementation of a design relaunch for the entire biozentrale range – Power of Nature and BioKids
